Sanitation Lead is responsible for directing the work of the Sanitation Technician I employees and the cleaning of the facility and equipment.  

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:   

  • Coordinates the overall Sanitation program for the NSL site
  • Oversees day to day operations of the Sanitation Team and assists with cleaning tasks, taking on a fair portion of the daily, weekly, monthly, and annual cleaning tasks
  • Audits the facility and grounds daily for integrity, cleanliness, orderliness, audit readiness (includes roof, weeds, gutters, birds, doors, seals, lighting, parking lots, paint and spackle, overall appearance of facility and more)
  • Trains team and others in Good Sanitation Practices in food/dietary supplement environment and monitors compliance
  • Works with the team to complete and log tasks per the Master Sanitation Schedule
  • Ensures that Sanitation areas are audit-ready using 5S to keep neat and orderly
  • Works with Operations and Quality Assurance to manage the Approved Chemical List
  • Ensures proper storage of maintenance and cleaning chemicals and that they are properly labeled and segregated according to food contact/nonfood contact
  • Works with the Pest Control contractor to keep pests out of the facility
  • Manages the uniform laundering SOP and works with uniform laundering contractor to ensure uniforms are handled in accordance with our cGMP specifications
  • Eliminates sources of foreign material that could wind up in the product by maintaining cleanliness of toolboxes, forklifts, pallet wrappers, transition areas between rooms, warehouse racking, floor to ceiling fixtures in areas outside production rooms
  • Manages cleanup when bodily fluids are involved (i.e., vomit, blood, sewage, etc.)
  • Works with maintenance to keep floor scrubbers in good working condition
  • Assists the Production Coordinator in completing Performance Appraisals for Team
  • Properly trains team members in the correct sanitation procedures and provides continuing development
  • Works directly with the Production Coordinator with a dotted line to QA Manager to assess sanitation needs
  • Assigns personnel as needed to ensure areas and equipment are cleaned and ready for processing
  • Works with team members as needed to ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner
  • Supervise team members to ensure equipment and materials are used properly
  • Maintains work and storage areas in an acceptable and safe manner
  • Determines appropriate action beyond GMP guidelines
  • Follows all environmental, health and safety procedures and supports all plant safety and environmental initiatives
  • Demonstrates management’s commitment to safety by proactively working to prevent accidents and eliminate unsafe conditions
  • Plays a critical role as part of the Crisis Management Team in the event of fire, flood, or other damage to the facility, grounds, structure, or components

Required Education, Skills, Knowledge and Experiences:

  • Education level:  Associates Degree or higher (preferred).  Minimum: High School diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred areas of study: Technical field
  • Similar or related experience desired: 5-10 years of experience in operations with a minimum of 1-3 years in sanitation, preferably in a food or dietary supplement manufacturing environment.
  • GMP Certification in Food Safety / Sanitation or commitment to seek certification in first 6 months of job.
  • Experience with CompuClean (Master Sanitation Schedule) or commitment to complete user training within first year of the job.
  • Essential skills/knowledge: Knowledge of various chemicals used in the sanitation process. Ability to read and interpret documents such as SDS, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, government regulations, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization. Ability to effectively supervise employees.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts for making dilutions of cleaning and sanitization solutions.
